Proctor & Gamble (P&G) Pavilion
Cincinnati, Ohio
FTL
The City of Cincinnati, Ohio
The P&G Pavilion, located along the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati, was originally designed and built in 1986 with a PVC skin coated with Tedlar®. It had been a very successful publicly owned venue, and when the original fabric showed signs of aging, the City hired Span Systems to evaluate, redesign and install a new PTFE (Teflon®) skin. Determined to save money for the City, Span Systems recreated the fabric structure by careful measurement and testing of the existing components, to determine which may be refurbished and reused. The design parameters of the different fabric, along with other design improvements, including new catenary cables and corner plates as well as all hardware, maintained and enhanced the existing structure. Externalizing the perimeter cable system and altering the connections details has improved the behavior of the structure, insuring that the facility will continue to provide the citizens and guests of Cincinnati with an intimate, relaxing waterfront performance venue.
This elegant performance pavilion has been beautifully restored and should remain a functional architectural gem for many years to come.
